Breaking Barriers: Empowering Deaf Youth for Education, Leadership, and Livelihoods

I am a disability rights advocate, deaf leader and educator.  I have personally experienced many of the barriers that deaf people face. I want to use my experiences to help other deaf youth overcome these challenges, unlock their potential, and become leaders who create positive changes in their community.

My project aims to empower deaf youth through mentorship, leadership development, career guidance, digital literacy, entrepreneurship training, and community awareness on disability inclusion. It seeks to build the confidence, skills, and opportunities deaf young people need to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

The goal is to implement the pilot program in the next nine months: a community needs assessment will be conducted, the project implementation plan will be developed, mentors and participants will be recruited, partnerships will be established with schools and disability organizations, and the first leadership and mentorship workshop will be conducted.

By the end of the nine-month period, the project will directly reach and empower 50 deaf youth through leadership development, mentorship, career guidance, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship activities. The project will also establish a sustainable mentoring network and generate lessons for expanding the initiative to more deaf youth and communities.
